The dictionary defines wisdom as knowledge, insight, and good judgment. God has revealed to me that although these things are essential to have wisdom, they are not wisdom. Real wisdom is the God given ability to see any situation, discern what is happening and the best action to take, and then act upon this observation.
In light of this, the reason the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, is that any man wanting wisdom has to be able to see that God is Lord of all and that anything apart from Him is death. This will cause them to follow Him and worship Him instead of choosing death. In addition, in order to be wise you must fully rely on God. Only he can give you real wisdom and help live in it.
Also, I cannot stress enough that although wisdom can be a window and will help us help others, its true purpose is to be a mirror and show us how act and live. Even if you know everything about a situation between two people and know exactly what you would do if you were in it, if you do not use wisdom in your actions when you try to help you will appear to be stupid. Wisdom is meant to be used in all things and cannot just be turned on and off. If you truly want to be wise you must remember to always rely on God.
